Recycled plastic lumber is what we are known for, and it is still most of what we ship. It needs nothing, it does not splinter, and a board can be replaced in year twelve. But in the last three years three other materials have appeared in our orders, and they are worth understanding as a set.
Hardened bamboo
Arrived in our orders in 2025 and shipped 121 units in its first year, more than any new material has done. It is chosen for the look: the warmth of timber, with weather performance well beyond most softwood. It is a design decision more often than a maintenance one, and the projects tend to be the ones that get photographed.
Accoya
A modified wood, first ordered in 2024, in small but steady numbers. It is the material for a client who wants real wood and a long service life at the same time, and is prepared to pay for both. We have shipped the JEM lounge chair and chaise in it.
Cedar
Cedar went from no orders at all to a small annual run since 2023. It goes in when the brief says cedar: a heritage site, a building it has to match, a client with a view. We make it, and we say plainly that it needs a refinishing schedule the other three do not.
How to choose
If nobody will maintain it, recycled plastic. If the look is the brief, bamboo. If the brief is real wood that lasts, Accoya. If the brief says cedar, cedar, with eyes open. The same bench is available in all four, which is the point: the choice is about the site, not the product.
