Recycled Plastic Lumber Site Furnishings

Every product built on our standard 100% recycled HDPE board, from park benches and picnic tables to bike racks and bollards. About recycled plastic lumber site furnishings

Our standard board is 100% recycled HDPE, roughly half post-consumer and half post-industrial. The colour runs all the way through, so a scratch shows the same shade underneath and nothing ever needs staining or paint. The board will not rot, splinter or warp. Years of sun will fade the surface, and the Renew tool takes that layer back off. At the end of its life the board can be ground down and re-extruded into another one.

Most of the catalogue is built on it. The Rutherford Picnic Table and the Standard Bench 6ft carry recycled plastic slats on a marine-grade aluminum frame with stainless steel hardware, and that combination is what gives a service life beyond 25 years with minimal maintenance. The Modena Curved Top Waste Receptacle uses 95% recycled-plastic slats, and the Urban Form 2 Space Bike Rack uses the same lumber as a buffer between the rack and the bike frame.

Where a wood look is wanted, the Aylesbury Bench 6ft and others take cedar, Accoya or bamboo in place of the plastic. The trade-off is maintenance. Wood weathers and may want an oil finish to hold its colour, while the recycled board is left alone.

Questions

Does recycled plastic lumber need painting or staining?

No. The colour runs through the board, so a scratch shows the same shade underneath. Years of sun will fade the surface, and the Renew tool takes that layer back off.

How much recycled content is in a finished product?

The board itself is 100% recycled HDPE. Whole products vary because of the aluminum frame: the Rutherford Picnic Table is 70% recycled content, the Aylesbury Bench 6ft is 75%, and the Modena Curved Top Waste Receptacle uses 95% recycled-plastic slats.

Can I get the same models in wood instead?

Many of them. The Aylesbury Bench 6ft and the Modena Curved Top Waste Receptacle are offered in cedar, Accoya or bamboo as alternatives to recycled plastic slats.

What happens to the board at the end of its life?

It can be ground down and re-extruded into another board. The Aylesbury Bench 6ft, for example, is listed as 100% recyclable.
