| two-stream stations shipped |
Three streams is what a sustainability policy says. Two streams is what a maintenance crew can service. The gap between those two sentences is where most recycling stations get specified wrong.
Why two wins
A third stream only works if the site has a third collection. A park with waste and mixed recycling pickup has two streams, whatever the station says on the front. Adding an organics slot to a site with no organics collection produces a bin of contaminated waste that a crew has to sort by hand, and the second year it gets taped over.
The sites that order three-stream from us are the ones that have three-stream collection: hospitals with cafeterias, campuses with dining, a few downtown plazas. Royal Columbian took a three-stream station. Most parks take two.
The specification question
Before choosing the station, find out what the truck collects. That one question decides the product. A station with the right number of streams is used correctly. A station with one too many is a single bin with three lids.
