| accessible units shipped in 2019 |
We shipped roughly the same number of units in 2026 as in 2019. Inside that flat total, the share that is wheelchair-accessible more than tripled. Accessible picnic tables, accessible planters, accessible vault toilets. This is not our doing. It is what was specified.
Where it is coming from
Three places, in our records. Schools, where accessible picnic tables are now the default rather than the exception. Municipalities, where grant funding increasingly carries an accessibility condition, as it did at Swalwell Park in Lake Country. And hospitals, which were always accessible by mandate and are now specifying it at furniture level rather than stopping at the door.
What accessible actually means in a picnic table
Two things. Clearance under the table at one or both ends, so a chair can pull in rather than park alongside. And a table that otherwise matches the standard version, so that an accessible table is not the odd one out at the edge of the group. The second matters more than people expect. A family with one wheelchair user sits at one table, not at a special one.
The same idea runs through benches. Armrests help one person stand and prevent another from sitting. Backless benches allow a side transfer. The best-specified sites we have seen take all three forms of one bench family, so the site reads as one decision and works for everyone in it.
